1. FACULTY/STAFF NEWS

Taemin K. Park, Serials Department, IU Libraries, Bloomington presented a paper entitled, "Survey of Electronic Journals in OCLC: The Extent and Quality of Cataloging" at the 59th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Information Science, Oct. 23, 1996, Baltimore, Maryland. Effective October 30, Dung-Lan Chen accepted the Acquisitions Coordinator position in MPS. Dung-Lan has held various hourly positions for several years in the Library. She holds MLS and Masters of Education degrees.

Effective October 31, Fran Juergensmeyer resigned her position as Dissertation Conversion Specialist in IOCM.

2. IUPUI UNIVERSITY LIBRARY ANNOUNCES CONTINUING KING ARTHUR ACTIVITIES

As a part of the IUPUI presentation of the American Library Association's national traveling exhibition of THE MANY REALMS OF KING ARTHUR, the University Library cordially invites you to attend the following series of FREE public activities occurring during the month of November. Lecture: "Pointed Arches & Other Anachronisms; Gothic Revival Architecture in 
Indianapolis," led by Marsh Davis of Historic Landmarks Foundation of IN

Book Presentation & Signing: Canadian author, David Staines, presenting 
"Tennyson's Guinevere & Her Idylls of the King."  Book signing at 6:30.

Sunday, Nov. 17, 3:00 p.m. -Library Auditorium
Family Series: Disney's animated "The Sword & the Stone," with book/film 
discussion led by Prof.  William Touponce
A special Indiana University Lilly Library rare collection of Arthurian books, illustrations and manuscripts dating back to the 1600's are also on display in the University Library Special Collections area, located on the Lower Level. Call 274-0464 for viewing schedule.

3. SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS MARKS 100TH ANNIVERSARY

During Arts Week, November 1-2, the School of Fine Arts celebrated its 100th Anniversary which included receptions, exhibition openings, and two fine arts career panels. BJ Irvine was a participant on the "Careers in Art History" panel which included art historians, museum curators, and art dealers. This panel was moderated by Prof. Bruce Cole, Chair, History of Art.

4. SUMMARY OF LIBRARY-RELATED GRANT OPPORTUNITIES

Short-term fellowships are available to visiting scholars who reside outside 
the greater New Haven area to pursue postdoctoral (or equivalent) research in 
the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University.
There is no application form. Applicants are asked to submit a resume and 
brief research proposal to the director at the library.

ALA-GALE RESEARCH EXCELLENCE IN BUSINESS LIBRARIANSHIP AWARD
Annual award made to an individual who has distinguished him/herself in the 
field of business librarianship through authorship, imaginative and successful programs, strong leadership in professional associations, or other activities which encourage librarians to excel in business librarianship.

database, or any other project which has helped meet users' needs.

research; to education of acquisitions professionals; and to the advancement 
of the profession.

INDIANA HERITAGE RESEARCH GRANT
A joint effort of the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Humanities Council

Program Description:
Up to $2,500 in matching funds is available to support state and local history research projects. Awards are made to nonprofit organizations.
Contributions of in-kind services, as well as cash resources, from
the sponsoring agencies qualify for matching purposes.

Funds may be used for a range of history research projects including: basic research, oral history collection and transcription, substantive editing of historic documents, interpretation and cataloguing of historical collections, translation of historic materials in foreign languages, conservation of old photographs and documents, and other history research programs.

Grant recipients must pledge to prepare two public programs in connection
with the research project.

Workshops for potential IHRG applicants will be offered in 1996 on the following dates, from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m.:

November 13---Abe Martin Lodge, Nashville 
November 16---Indiana Historical Society, Indianapolis 
November 21---Valparaiso University (Union Building), Valparaiso
