
5. INULA Event
Carl Horne has received a $2,000 International Opportunities for Libraries and Librarians Grant from the Office of International Programs to prepare a catalog of the Hangin Mongolian Collection. The development of a catalog for this collection will permit access for the first time to most of over 2,000 rare items of vital interest to world scholars.
Gary Wiggins gave two lectures on December 4 in the Washington, DC area. He spoke on "Data Needs of Academic Research in the Internet Environment" at the NIST Standard Reference Data Program Colloquium Series. A live link to the National Institute of Standards and Technology Physics Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado enabled attendees there to hear the lecture and to see the Internet demonstrations. Gary also delivered a lecture entitled "Overview of Chemical Information Sources" at a National Institutes of Health Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry Seminar.
On Saturday, December 14, at 5 pm, members of Indiana University's Early Music Institute will present a lamplight concert in the parlor of Wylie House, with a program of Christmas music of the 13th through 18th centuries. Admission is free. Wylie House is located at 307 E. 2nd Street and is handicap accessible. For more information, call 855-6224.

There will be a Communication Forum Tuesday, December 17, 1996, from 2-3 p.m. in the Ground Floor Conference Room. Pat Lovett, Chair of the Communication Task Force, and Mary Strow, Chair of a group charged with developing a plan for the layout of the library, will be at the meeting. They will each make a brief presentation about the activities of their committees. There will also be open discussion and comments from the Dean.
4. OCLC LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE RESEARCH GRANT PROGRAM (LISRG)
OCLC Online Computer Library Center and the Office of Research announce the Library and Information Science research (LISRG) program for 1997 and invite research proposals.
In recognition of the importance of research to the advancement of librarianship and information science, OCLC promotes independent research that helps librarians integrate new technologies into areas of traditional competence and that contributes to a better understanding of the environment in which OCLC services exist.
Faculty in schools of library and information science are eligible to apply. OCLC encourages collaborative projects under this program.
