4. OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS GRANTS FOR IU LIBRARIES & LIBRARIANS

1. International Opportunities for Libraries and Librarians

To provide support for librarians from any IU campus for a range of projects and activities that are aimed at developing the international collections of their libraries or enhancing their ability to take advantage of international opportunities regarding library development. Funds are available for proposals such as: international travel to specific world areas for print and media acquisitions; domestic or international travel to examine special collections that might enhance the university's holdings, or to collaborate with colleagues at other institutions on projects with an international focus; domestic or international travel to special book or media fairs featuring international content; visits to funding agencies in the U.S. or abroad to identify and coordinate sup port for special or unique library projects with an international focus. One-time funding is also available to enhance access to IU's international collections and resources.
Deadline: March 15, 1997. Awards: From $500 to $3,000.

2. Hewlett Library Acquisition Grants (for non-Bloomington campuses)

As in preceding years, these grants are competitive among all IU campuses other than Bloomington. They are intended to assist in purchasing library materials on international studies which would be difficult or impossible to acquire in the absence of such funding. Application consists of a letter describing the kinds of books and materials to be acquired under the grant, and justification for these materials. We do not necessarily need a detailed list and prices of books, but do request some detail on the kinds of materials desired (print vs. other), their area range, and how they enhance current collections or new international areas to support the teaching and research interests of the campus. P roposals from each campus will be enhanced if the campus is able to provide matching funds for these acquisitions.
Deadline: April 15, 1997. Award:up to $2,000 on average.
