2. COMPLETED TRANSFER OF MATERIALS FROM SWAIN TO SWAIN EAST 030
Swain Hall Library has just completed a semester-long project to transfer about 14,000 items from the library's Faculty Reading Room and overcrowded journal area to a recently renovated storage room, Swain East 030. Steve Forrest of Swain oversaw the project, which involved barcoding lots of old, dusty, dirty materials (done by Swain student-assistants Angie Wolavka, Sam Bagchi and Gwen Maxwell); determining what to transfer in order to best utilize the space in Swain East; and planning the move itself, which was done over seven weeks by Vaughn Nuest, Jim Onken, and six of Vaughn's student-assistants (Ben Baker, Steve Latterell, Shawn Lancaster, Kyle Phillip, Rebecca Olson, and Rob Stockwell). The move itself was complicated by there being no way to avoid stairs in going from Swain West to Swain East, but Vaughn's crew successfully managed this; and through Steve's excellent planning, Swain East 030 is now filled to 99.7% capacity. Summertime shifting into the space made available by the move (especially into the Faculty Reading Room) may relieve the overcrowding not just in Swain Library's journal area, but in its reference section as well.
