1. FACULTY/STAFF NEWS

Effective August 27, Kyle Cox resigned from his position as Reference/Technical Associate in the Business/SPEA Library.

Effective August 28, Danielle Dutton resigned from her position as Subject Authority and Bibliographic Control Specialist in IOCM.

Effective September 2, Penny Foster accepted the Senior Secretary/Technical Services position in UGLS. Penny has worked in MPS as a student employee for the past four years.

Effective September 8 Lisa Howard has accepted an Assistant Circulation Supervisor position in Customer and Facilities Services. Lisa previously worked in the Fine Arts Library as Senior Circulation Assistant.

Michael D. Main, Computer Support Technician for the Customer & Facilities Services Department, published his first commercial book on August 22, 1997. The electronic publication -titled APOLLO: AN AMERICAN LIFE- is a novel in the form of a memoir. Main has acted as an entrepreneur in literary editing and publishing on the World Wide Web since January 1996. OverDrive Press -of Cleveland, Ohio- is the major U.S. provider of e-book software solutions to top book industry publishers. OverDrive has published Main's novel on their exclusive commercial book selling site on the Internet, the ELECTRONIC BOOK AISLE, located at: http://www.bookaisle.com

Effective September 3 Doug McKinney accepted the CONSER/NACO Serials Cataloger position in Serials. Doug previously worked in MPS as a Monographic Cataloger.

Effective August 10 Julie Su in Serials Cataloging at the University Library in Indianapolis resigned.

Effective September 5 Miwako Tamura has resigned her position as a Database coordinator in the Chemistry Library.

2. DIRECTOR FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

I am pleased to announce that Phyllis Davidson is our new Director for Information Technology. Phyllis is well known to many of you as one of the Directors of University Computing Services. She has been heavily involved in making the Horizon project a success and has served the Libraries well in any number of capacities. Phyllis' appointment is a joint appointment between UCS and the Libraries. In her UCS capacity, she will continue to provide oversight for UCS's Horizon responsibilities. We are absolutely delighted to welcome Phyllis to the IU Libraries!

3. ERGONOMICS PROGRAM

The Ergonomics Team is sponsoring another presentation on Wednesday, September 17, at 9:30 a.m., in the Ground Floor Conference Room. Lynn Sinn from Risk Management will be here to talk about the role of Risk Management on campus, workplace injuries, and general issues related to Workers' Compensation. You must register to attend this program because space is limited. To register, please contac t Marilyn Shaver. The program will last approximately 90 minutes.
