5. ARTISTS' BOOKS EXHIBITION AT THE HERRON SCHOOL OF ART GALLERY
Oct. 8-Nov. 15
"This exhibit concentrates on art in which the book form has been incorporated as a central symbol or motif, and books which have been produced through techniques usually reserved for the production of art. Four artists' works are highlighted: Mark Actander; Ronald Leax; Buzz Spector; and Margaret Wharton.
The Fine Arts Library has loaned 12 books for this exhibition including works by SOFA students: Raymond Canavan; Peter Suchecki; and Lauri Twitchell. The Lilly Library has also loaned several works.
I will be going to the opening reception on Wed, Oct. 9, 5-7 pm. You are welcome to join me for the drive to Indy.

6. BOOK ARTIST LECTURE AT FINE ARTS
TITLE: "AMANDA BARROW: WORDS AND PICTURES"
October 20, 12 noon - 1 p.m., Rm. 238, FA Bldg.
CO-SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS AND THE FINE ARTS
LIBRARY/IUL LIBRARIES.
Amanda Barrow is a book artist who has studied papermaking and printmaking techniques in India during a Fulbright grant in 1992.
Among other collections worldwide, her work is in the Museum of Modern Art, the New York Public and Boston Public Libraries, and the Museum of the Book, Netherlands. The Fine Arts Library also has one of her conceptual bookworks.
OBSERVATIONS BY AMANDA BARROW:
"Travels in New Zealand, India, and Europe in the recent past have enhanced my personal vision, leading me to dig deeper into the indiginous spiritual ambiance of the East in my artwork. Synthesizing these Eastern concepts with the Western visual language of my upbringing is my intention. I experiment with transparency and explore the inherent structure of my chosen medium. The resulting work presents a broad range of abstractions utilizing the book format as my primary source of inspiration".
