8. INULA PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT
The InULA Board is pleased to announce that we have awarded our first Professional Development grant to Michele Russo and Nancy Wootton Colborn of I.U. South Bend to run a customer service training program for library faculty, staff and students entitled "CLASS, Customers Leaving Appreciative, Satisfied and Sold." The CLASS program is a one-day training program designed to develop customer service skills by exploring such issues as first impressions, interpersonal relationships and communication.
InULA Membership meeting
Three IU librarians addressed current issues in academic librarianship at the InULA fall membership meeting on October 13, held in the IU Memorial Union Faculty Club. Blending practical and philosophical approaches, Sue Skeklof (IPFW), Sylvia Turchyn (IUB), and Marie Wright (IUPUI) brought up issues such as "weeds" that get in the way of trying to give patrons a clear path to what they are looking for; maintaining the academic status of librarians and the service culture that attracted many to the profession; and the education of upcoming librarians. A lively discussion, moderated by Marty Rosen (IUSE), ensued among the sizable audience.
