3. NEW EXHIBIT AT RUTH LILLY MEDICAL LIBRARY
1997 marks the tenth anniversary of the opening of the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, one of the nation's leading institutions for the study of voluntary action for the public good. In conjunction with this anniversary, the Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives of the IUPUI University Library opens a new exhibit saluting the Center. The exhibit includes a brief history of the Center and its directors and features materials from several philanthropic collections gathered by the Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives in collaboration with the Center on Philanthropy. These collections document philanthropic activity both on a national level and in the Indianapolis area. The collections include the papers of private philanthropists, J. Warren McClure and Carol and W. H. Ferry, records from the fund raising firms of the Oram Group and Ward, Dreshman, and Reinhardt, the Foundation Center Historic Foundation Collection, and records from such Indianapolis philanthropic organizations such as Flanner House, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, and the Wheeler Mission.
The exhibit will be up through the end of the year. The Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives are located in Room 0133 on the lower level of the IUPUI University Library. The archives are open Monday, Thursday, and Friday 8AM to 5PM, Tuesday and Wednesday, 8AM to 8 PM and Saturday 8AM to noon. For more information about the exhibit or the philanthropic collections, call (317) 274-0464.
