Effective January 20, Diana Wilson accepted the Document Delivery Services Assistant position in Customer and Facilities Services. Diana has worked in a student position in the Library for the past two years. She has a BA in Psychology and is working toward an MLS degree.
2. CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM - REMINDER
On Tuesday, January 27, the BFLC Continuing Education Committee will host a program entitled "The Best Web Site: How Libraries Can Create, Design, Maintain, and Manage a Web Site". The program begins at 1 pm. Moira Smith, Bibliographer for Anthropology, Sociology, Folklore and Women's Studies, will be the first speaker. She will be followed by Jian Lui, Reference. A short break with refreshments should occur at approximately 2:30. After the break Carol Hert, Assistant Professor of Library and Information Science, will conclude the program by addressing management and maintenance issues accompanying a web site. The program will take place in Media Room 174.
The program is open to all and will be videotaped for those unable to attend.

3. IULFC MEETING FEBRUARY 19TH
The next meeting of the Indiana University Library Faculty Council will take place on Thursday, February 19, at 1:00 P.M. The meeting will be held on the Indianapolis campus in University Library Room UL 1115.

4. SEARCH AND SCREEN COMMITTEE APPOINTED
The search and screen committee for Visiting Assistant Librarian, Assistant to the Head of the Chemistry Library/Acting Head of the Music Library has been appointed. The members are: Roger Beckman, Acting Head, Chemistry Library; Steven Sowell, Head, Education Library; and Gary Wiggins (Chair), Acting Head, Music Library.
As per the INCOLSA OCLC Cataloging Update, no.80, December 1997, we have been advised that "All print INCOLSA OCLC updates are being discontinued as of January 1, 1998.....INCOLSA OCLC updates will be available only from the INCOLSA Web Site as of January 1".

6. CALUMET REGIONAL ARCHIVES ANNIVERSARY
"Celebrate in '98" is the theme for the silver anniversary year of IUN's Calumet Regional Archives, located on the library's third floor. Over the past twenty-five years, the Archives has collected, preserved, and made available thousands of historical records documenting the growth and development of Northwest Indiana.
Throughout this year, the Archives will produce exhibits and newsletters highlighting portions of the collection. The first exhibit, presenting an overview of the Archives, is now on display in the lobby of the IUN Library/Conference Center.

7. IU LAW LIBRARY-INDIANAPOLIS AUTHORIZED AS BIBCO PARTICIPANT
The Technical Services Department at the Indiana University School of Law Library, Indianapolis was recently authorized by the Library of Congress Regional & Cooperative Cataloging Division as a BIBCO participant, and has also received OCLC Enhance authorization at the national level. As a BIBCO participant, the law library catalogers can input or upgrade monograph records at the same level of authentication as the Library of Congress. They can also enhance OCLC non-CONSER serial records that have 10 or fewer holdings attached to them. At the time the IU Law School Library was authorized for Program for Cooperative Cataloging participation, only 24 other libraries nationwide were members, and only one of those was a law library (St. Louis University School of Law). Chris Long, Cataloger, and Wendell Johnting, Assistant Director for Technical Services, received training on PCC procedures from David Glenn at the University of Maryland at College Park.
8. 1998 OCLC LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE RESEARCH GRANT PROGRAM
OCLC's Office of Research announces the continuation of the Library and Information Science Research Grant (LISRG) Program for 1998. The LISRG program is designed to support research within the library science and information science fields, providing up to a maximum of $10,000 per proposal.
Budgets should indicate (1) details of what is needed to conduct the research; (2) other funding that is being provided by the institution or other grants; and (3) what is needed from OCLC in terms of funding, equipment or other support.
Copies of the _OCLC Annual Report_ and the _Annual Review of OCLC Research_ are available upon request. These OCLC publications as well as the electronic copies of _OCLC at a Glance_, a program announcement and a cover sheet for proposals are available through the OCLC Home Page:
OCLC is committed to encouraging research in the library science and the information science fields; we hope that we will receive a proposal from you. The deadline for submittal is Tuesday, March 31, 1998.
9. UPCOMING GRANT OPPORTUNITIES FROM THE OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS
Opportunities For Libraries and Librarians
To support librarians from any IU campus for projects and activities aimed
at library development of international collections. Funds for domestic or
international travel to: examine special collections, special book/media
fairs with international content; collaborate institutionally on special
internationally focused library projects; travel to specific world areas for
print/media acquisitions; visit funding agencies to identify/coordinate
support for special international library projects. One-time funding also
available to enhance user access to IU's international collections and
resources. Matching funds are desirable for these projects. Deadlines: March
15. Awards: from $500 to $3,000.
PCIP International Projects and Activities Grants
To support faculty and librarians from all campuses for research abroad or
for projects which significantly contribute to the internationalization of
their campuses. Preference given to those early in their careers who seek to
enhance their international reputation in research or teaching. Deadlines:
April 1. Awards: up to $1,500.
Overseas Conference Fund
To provide partial support for airfare and travel expenses to an overseas
conference where applicant will present a competitively selected paper or
perform an important role. Deadlines: April 1, July 1. Awards: from $400 to
$800.
