Mary Rose Dewar, passed away May 6, 1998 in Bloomington. Mary Rose joined the Indiana University Libraries in 1962 as Head of the Bindery Preparations/Shelf Preparations Unit of the Serials department and continued in that capacity when the Preservation Department was created in 1984. She retired in Mary 1987. Mary Rose was a specialist in library binding standards and methods. She will also be remembered as an excellent manager and a good friend.

2. CORRECTION

Thanks and kudos to Yolanda Cooper-Birdine, Mary Popp, Gwen Pershing, and CAROLYN SHERAYKO for providing the recent in-house web classes. In the absence of the Technology Training/Education Specialist, they stepped in and provided instruction where there was significant demand. Those who learned from them and those of us who relied upon them all send appreciation.

3. STAFF NEWS

Mary Strow, Undergraduate Library Services, participated in a symposium, "A Decade of Dance Preservation," held May 1 and 2 at the Joyce Theatre Soho in New York City. Funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the symposium examined issues of documentation and preservation in the field of dance, and celebrated 10 years of archival initiatives to safeguard the legacy of dance. Mary spoke about the Dance Librarians Discussion Group and the Dance Librarians Committee, which are components of the Arts Section of ACRL. Mary also served as one of two respondants for the conference, by summarizing the papers and projects, offering suggestions for future initiatives, and guiding the concluding conference discussion.

Beginning this week, Mary Strow has accepted a temporary re-assignment in the Music Library as Assistant to the Acting Head of the Music Library, Gary Wiggins. We thank Mary for helping Gary during the remainder of his tenure in the Music Library, and Carolyn Walters for her willingness to "loan" Mary to another unit!

Effective May 8, Adam Gluckman resigned from his position as Assistant to the Acting Head, Cook Music Library and Head, Chemistry Library.

Effective May 12, Tony Fehrenbacher resigned from his position as Computer Support Technician in Customer and Facilities Services.

Effective May 8, Michael Main resigned from his position as Computer Support Technician in Customer and Facilities Services.
