1. STAFF NEWS

Marty Joachim (IUB) has written an article entitled "From Lost Luggage to the Library of Congress: Joseph H. Howard's Contributions to Librarianship" for v. 25, no. 2-3 (1998) of Cataloging & Classification Quarterly. The article appears in a special volume entitled Portraits in Cataloging and Classification: Theorists, Educators, and Practitioners of the Late Twentieth Century.

Kellie Kaneshiro attended the Medical Library Association's Leadership Institute on May 22, 1998. She has been selected as the 1998/1999 chair of the Medical Library Association's Books Panel. The Books Panel provides general oversight and programmatic direction to the association's book publishing program.

Gary Wiggins presented the lecture "CHMINF-L and Other Chemistry Mailing Lists/Discussion Groups" at the 30th Central Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society, Cleveland, May 28, 1998.

Effective June 8, Dawn Arbuckle has accepted the Department Secretary (Receptionist) position in Library Administration. Dawn is currently the Receptionist/Medical Records Technician at the Bone and Joint, Foot and Ankle Center in Bloomington.

Effective June 4, Laura Gabbard resigned from her position as Serials Procurement Specialist in the Serials Department.

Effective May 22, David Greenebaum resigned from his position as Reference Technical Associate in the Lilly Library.

Effective May 26, Kimberly Koons resigned her position as Conservation Assistant in the Lilly Library.

Effective June 1, Christopher Lipscombe has accepted the Computer Support Coordinator for the Technical Services position. Christopher recently emigrated to the U.S. from the United Kingdom where he last worked in computer support for the Royal Bank of Scotland. His e-mail address is CLIPSCOM.

Effective May 27, David Reynolds retired from his position as Supervisor of Photocopy Services in Customer and Facilities Services.

2. COMMUNICATION FORUM NEXT WEEK

A Communication Forum is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17 at 11:00 am in the Staff Lounge located on the 3rd floor of the Main Library.

3. E-MAIL ADDRESS CHANGES

Effective June 1, all e-mail addresses for the staff of the library at Fort Wayne have changed. The addresses now consist of the user name followed by @IPFW.EDU.

4. POSITION OPENING

5. RARE AND BEAUTIFUL LIBRARY EXHIBIT

The IUPUI University Library Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives announces the opening of its latest exhibit, RARE AND BEAUTIFUL: The Books of the Ruth Lilly Special Collections. This exhibit showcases five different collections of books, including the Mrs. Evan Noyes Collection of Children's Books, the Dr. John E. Jesseph Collection of Civil War Books, the Leo and Mary Solt English History Collection, the Robert A. Woods Masonic Collection, and the St. Meinrad Seminary Theology Collection. Highlights of the exhibit include the oldest book in the IUPUI Libraries, the Beati Ivstini Philosophi of St. Justin Martyr, which dates to 1554, and a copy of the world's smallest Bible, measuring only 55mm tall. Also on display are examples of fine illustration and binding as well as a brief look at the factors which contribute to a book being classified as rare. The exhibit will be on view through late August. The Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives are located in Room 0133 on the Lower Level of the IUPUI University Library, 755 West Michigan Street. Exhibit hours are Monday, Thursday and Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, Tuesday and Wednesday 8 AM to 8 PM, and Saturday 8 AM to noon. 7. DON'T FORGET TO USE THE MASTER CALENDAR!

There is a master calendar in Libraries' Human Resources where we list most meetings and training sessions that have been widely announced. Suzann Easter (sleaster) maintains this calendar, and you can let her know if you want something listed. If you're scheduling a meeting and want to avoid conflicts, consulting the master calendar may help.
