The Schurz Library at IUSB is celebrating its 10-year anniversary and the 100th birthday of its namesake, Franklin D. Schurz, Sr., with a year-long calendar of events. A variety of lectures, displays and workshops will educate and inform around the theme, "IUSB Schurz Library: Treasuring the Past, Exploring the Future." The Fall schedule includes:
Public lecture by Paul Gehl from the Newberry Library in Chicago, "How did Michelangelo Learn to Read and Write? School Books of the Renaissance," October 15, 7:00 p.m., Northside 113. To complement the lecture, Karen Ackoff, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts will coordinate a display in the Schurz Lobby entitled, "Handmade Books - Past to Present." She will also give demonstrations of gilding technique on October 23rd at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the Schurz Lobby.
This Spring, John Perry Barlow, co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and a respected voice in the electronic community, will speak at a public lecture in IUSB's Main Auditorium on Sunday, April 11, 1999, at 7:00 p.m. His appearance coincides with National Library Week.
On June 4, 1999, John Berry from Library Journal will moderate a panel including Suzanne Thorin, IU; Tom Kirk, Earlham College and Jennifer Younger, University of Notre Dame. The panel presentation is entitled: "Navigating toward the New Millenium - Libraries in Transition."

3. IUPUI Library Hosts National Touring Exhibition
REMINDER:
The University Library of Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) will serve as a regional host for a national traveling exhibition to America's libraries, organized by the American Library Association. The Frontier in American Culture, scheduled for presentation September 3 - October 15, 1998, was organized in cooperation with and based on the Graff and Ayer collections of the Newberry Library, Chicago.
Exhibition programs presented by the IUPUI University Library are free to the public and will take place in the Library facility located on the IUPUI campus at 755 West Michigan Street. For general exhibition information, address of http://www-lib.iupui.edu/frontier/
