1. COMMUNICATION FORUMS

Communication Forums have been scheduled for Monday, January 8; Thursday, March 14; and Thursday, May 9. All forums will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will be held in the Ground Floor Conference Room (043). All librarians and staff are invited to attend these meetings with the dean and other administrators.

2. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

The following classes are being presented by UCS for librarians and library staff during the spring semester:

Using Pine and Shakespeare (previously EZMail)--Wednesday, Jan. 24, 9:00-11:00 a.m. ((CLASS FULL))

Introduction to Windows--Thursday, Feb. 15, 8:30-ll:30 a.m.

WordPerfect Windows: The Basics--Monday, March 25, 1:30-4:30 p.m.

WordPerfect Windows: Desktop Publishing--Tuesday, April 2, 8:30- 11:30 a.m.

Paradox for Windows: Step 1--Tuesday, April 23, 1:30-4:30 p.m.

The computer classes will be held in M088, IMU.


The following classes will be presented in the Ground Floor Conference Room (043) by HRM trainees:

"Preparing Job Manuals"--Tuesday, February 20, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Presenter will be Sue Gastony.

"Stress Management"--Tuesday, March 19, 9:00 a.m.-noon. Presenter will be Sue Gastony.

"Handling Difficult Customers"--Thursday, March 20, 9:00 a.m.-noon. Presenter will be Deb Nelson.

"Supervising Student Employees"--Wednesday, April 10, 9:30-11:30. Presenters will be Deb Nelson and Jan Nickless.


On the Job Training:

On Wednesday, January 31, 9:00-11:00, Brenda Bailey-Hughes (HRM) will meet with interested supervisors in the Ground Floor Conference Room to talk about developing on-the-job training programs. This meeting will be for supervisors of students as well as for supervisors of staff. She will then work over a period of time with individual supervisors to tailor a program to meet specific needs.

Computer-Based Software Training:

UCS is offering interactive computer-based training courses to IU librarians, faculty, and staff AT NO COST. 3. MUSIC LIBRARY MOVE COMPLETED

The move of the Music Library collections to new quarters in the Simon Music Library and Recital Center was completed at 6:00 p.m. on Friday Dec. 22nd. The library remains closed to the public until January 8th while the staff complete terminal setups and testing, NOTIS table revisions, and other tasks required to open for normal operations.

Our thanks to the volunteers whose assistance enabled the completion of this move ahead of schedule: Spencer Anspach, Linda Butler, Laurel Carter, Elizabeth Johnson, Eric Petersen, Marilyn Shaver, Carolyn Sherayko, Pat Steele, and Saundra Taylor.

4. RUTH LILLY MEDICAL LIBRARY INVOLVED IN HEALTHWEB

The Ruth Lilly Medical Library is participating in HealthWeb, a cooperative Internet project of the academic health sciences libraries of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM), NN/LM Greater Midwest Region Office and the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC).
The project goals are to provide organized access to evaluated health-related, Internet-accessible resources for the world health sciences community. The project aims to improve the delivery of health care services through information, facilitate clinical and basic research, and support education. Visit HealthWeb subject areas on the Ruth Lilly Medical Library Web Server at: (http://www.medlib.iupui.edu/cicnet/index.html) Currently available subjects are Oncology, Radiology (developed at Indiana University), Nursing (University of Michigan), Minority Health (Michigan State University) and Consumer Health (developed at the University of Illinois at Chicago). 5. WILLIAM EVANS JENKINS LIBRARIAN AWARD

***NOMINATIONS DUE BY FEBRUARY 1. CONTACT MARILYN SHAVER FOR A COPY OF THE AWARD GUIDELINES.***

The Jenkins Award Committee is asking for nominations for the 1996 Jenkins Award for outstanding librarianship. Current and former Bloomington librarians are eligible to receive this award. The nomination form follows this article.

Please take the time to consider the professional contributions and achievements of your colleagues and to make nominations. The award consists of a certificate and $500. If more than one individual is given the award, the $500 will be shared equally by the recipients. The winner will be announced during National Library Week in April, and the award will be presented at the Retirement and Recognition Reception in May. The recipient's name will be added to the plaque in the Main Library lobby.

Nominations should be submitted by February 1, 1996, to Marilyn Shaver, Personnel Officer. Librarians nominated in the previous year will remain nominees for the current year. The chair of the Jenkins Award Committee will contact nominators for updated information.

Nomination forms and supporting documents are due by March 1. The supporting documentation should include a current curriculum vita (compiled by the nominee) and three letters of support (requested by the nominator).
