1. FACULTY/STAFF NEWS

Jim Baldwin, Associate Librarian (University Library at IUPUI), presented a paper at the annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers in Chicago on March 18. His paper was entitled "Tumas Tok Bilong Niugini: The Ethnographic Mapping of New Guinea."

Effective June 14 Bradley Cook accepted the position of Archives Associate I in University Archives. Brad was a student worker in University Archives prior to accepting this support staff position.

2. RECEPTION FOR DEAN NEAL

Please come to the Main Library Staff Lounge on June 30 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for an informal good-bye reception for Dean Neal. It will be our opportunity to wish him well and thank him for being our dean for the past six years. It has been marvelous!

3. LORRAINE WILSON'S RETIREMENT PARTY

There will be a reception for Lorraine Wilson on June 28, 1995 from 9:30 to ll:00 a.m. in the Staff Lounge. Lorraine is retiring on June 30th after 25 years. Please join us in saying goodbye.

4. ANNOUNCING THE 1995 I.U LIBRARIES PICNIC AND PITCH-IN

DATE:          Thursday, July 13, 1995
 
TIME:          11:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Food available 11:30-1:30)
 
WHERE:         Bryan Park, East Shelter House (Next to the Pool)
 
FARE:          We will provide FRIED CHICKEN, POTATO SALAD, COLD
               DRINKS, but would LOVE to have other CONTRIBUTIONS
               (especially side dishes and desserts.)   
 
ACTIVITIES:    Recreational Equipment will be provided, but feel
               free to bring your own board games, lawn games,
               cards, blankets and chairs.
 
SWIMMING:      If enough people sign up, we can receive a special
               admission rate for the Bryan Park Pool ($1.50 for
               adults and $1.00 for kids under 18).  Please
               indicate on the form below if you and your family
               would like to use the pool.

5. LIBRARY BENEFITS FROM APPLEBEE'S

During the Grand Opening Week at Applebee's, $1.00 of each guest check will be donated to the Bob Knight Library Endowment Fund. So drop in at Applebee's, a new restaurant at College Mall. The Library will benefit through Monday, June 26.

6. CHINESE PAINTING AND CALLIGRAPHY LECTURE/WORKSHOP

Under the sponsorship of SOFA, East Asian Studies Center, International Programs, and the Irving and Lena Lo Endowment, I have set up the following program:

JULY 2: "CHINESE PAINTING" Demonstration and practice sessions.
10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
SPACE IS LIMITED. REGISTER EARLY. $75.00

(Bring paper and ink painting brush. Some brushes and paper will be available for those not having their own supplies.)
