1. LINA DUNCAN

Lina Duncan, Payroll Coordinator in Library Personnel, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 1995. Lina had worked for the IU Libraries since 1980, beginning her career here as Senior Payroll Clerk in Library Personnel. She worked in Monographic Processing Services from 1986-1994 as Financial Records Assistant and returned to Library Personnel in 1994. Lina was elected to serve on the Library Support Staff Council in 1984. We will all miss Lina's wonderful spirit and the friendly and helpful attitude we saw every day as she performed her job. She exemplified the best of what library staff contribute to the Libraries, and we appreciated the time we had with her.

Marilyn Shaver, Personnel Officer

2. THANKS!!!

Kudos and thanks to the members of the Special Events Committee who worked hard on one of the hottest days of the year to provide a wonderfully successful Library Picnic. Diana Burch and Liana Zhou were the co-chairs of the event. Good food, shade, a nice breeze and the collegial company of employees made the day very pleasant. Thanks to attendees and organizers alike!

3. FACULTY/STAFF NEWS

Sherrill L. Weaver, Walden University Library Liaison, and Harold Shaffer, Head, Access Services, IUL-B, have published an article "Contracting to provide library service for a distance graduate education program" in THE BOTTOM LINE: MANAGING LIBRARY FINANCES, vol.8, no.3, 1995.

Two librarians will be taking leaves during 1995-96. Sally Rausch will be on leave from July 31, 1995 to June 30, 1996. Carolyn Walters will be on leave from August 15, 1995 to August 14, 1996.

4. INULA ELECTION RESULTS

The ballots for InULA's annual election have been counted, and I am pleased to announce the following new officers--

Phil Bantin, Vice President/ President Elect
Chris Long, Secretary
Andrea Morrison, Treasurer
Robin Crumrin, Representative at Large

Congratulations to these newly elected officers and our appreciation to all who ran.

I would also like to thank both the Nominations Subcommittee--Roger Beckman, Mechael Gago, and Kiyoshi Otsu--for their hard work in preparing the slate of candidates and mailing the ballot, and the Electoral Subcommittee--Grace Jackson-Brown and Frances Livingston--for their work in receiving and tallying the votes.

I've always believed that InULA works best when it enjoys enthusiastic participation from its members. I'm happy to say that this process, with both the candidates and the Elections Committee, has been a wonderful example of that principle.

Frank Quinn
InULA President

5. APPOINTMENT OF THE SEARCH COMMITTEE FOR THE DEAN OF UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES

The search committee for Dean of University Libraries has been appointed by Vice President Gros Louis. The co-chairs are Julie Bobay and Jeanne Peterson (History Dept.). 6. IUB LIBRARIES ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE APPOINTED

Kris Brancolini has agreed to chair the IUB Libraries Assessment Committee. Other members are: Nancy Boerner, Mary Popp, Emily Okada, and Gary Wiggins. Carolyn Walters will participate in the initial work of the committee. The charge to the group is to develop a plan for library instruction assessment. The plan will be a component of the overall IUB Assessment Plan organized by the Dean of the Faculties Office in response to North Central accreditation requirements.

The work of this committee could have a significant effect upon the entire instruction process. I appreciate Kris's leadership and the willingness of the committee members to address assessment issues. Participation by colleagues involved in library instruction will be essential during the process. I hope there will be a commitment to help bring this assignment to a successful conclusion.

--Pat Steele, Acting Dean
