2. MUSIC LIBRARY AT IUB TO CLOSE FOR EXTENDED BREAK:

Friday Dec. 15th 5:00 p.m. -- Monday Jan. 8th 7:30 a.m.

The Indiana University Music Library, Bloomington, will close Friday December 15th at 5:00 p.m. for three weeks to enable the move of its collections and staff into new facilities. The library will reopen on Monday January 8th as the William and Gayle Cook Music Library in the Bess Meshulam Simon Music Library and Recital Center. Telephone numbers will be unchanged, and mail sent to our present address will continue to reach us.

During the hiatus, telephones will be unanswered or disconnected; e-mail, snail-mail, and fax communication will be interrupted; the Music Library's World Wide Web site will be down; interlibrary loan requests cannot be filled.

We regret any inconvenience. After reopening, we ask your patience during what we hope will be a smooth and brief startup period.

--Michael Fling, Head of Music Collection Development

4. CONFERENCE REPORT

Dolores Hoyt, Giles Hoyt and Ruth Reichmann were organizers of a conference, "Towards a Survey of German-American Museums, Historic Sites, Archives and Libraries in North America," held Nov. 3-4, 1995, in Indianapolis. This conference was sponsored in part by a grant from the Max Kade Foundation and by assistance from the IUPUI University Libraries. The purpose of the conference was to demonstrate a prototype Web-site database and homepage for resources relating to German-Americana, and to develop the nucleus of a grant proposal that would support creation of electronic databases as well as link together Max Kade German American Center resources and other major German-American resources, including sites in Germany. Participants included people from such groups as the German Historical Institute, the Palatines to America, the Center for Migration Studies, Bremerhaven, Germany, and a number of Max Kade Centers. The following IUPUI University Library personnel participated in the development of the Web resources and presentations at the conference: Robin Crumrin, Dolores Hoyt and Steven Schmidt.
