Responsibilities of University Relations include supervising the university publications function in addition to the news bureau; planning, directing, and coordinating University events; and directing and coordinating news media information and materials for university executive officers and the Board of Trustess. Joseph O. Butcher served as Director of Special Services from 1970-1977.

Scope and Content Note

The records of Joseph O. Butcher document his work for University Relations from 1970-1977 when he served as Director of Special Services. The 136 files date from 1957-1977 and are arranged alphabetically. The records deal primarily with multi-campus ceremonies and events, including commencement ceremonies on the eight campuses from 1972 -l977, Distinguished Alumni Service Awards from 1972-1977, dedications, groundbreakings, receptions and campus tours. Also included are records relating to the retirement of Chancellor Hine (l973) and the investiture of President Ryan (l972).
