The IU Digital Library Program and the IU Archives of Traditional Music have recently launched a Web site featuring the Archives' Hoagy Carmichael Collection, including a virtual tour of the Hoagy Carmichael Room.
The Hoagy Carmichael Room, designed as a memorial to Indiana's famous songwriter and performing artist, contains a representative sample of the large collection of memorabilia donated by the Carmichael family. The collection includes sound recordings, music manuscripts, photographs, lyric sheets, correspondence, scrapbooks, paintings, and other personal effects.
The room is also the setting for the Archives-sponsored Noon Concert and Lecture Series, which provides local musicians with a performance venue. The series gives the audience an opportunity to hear live music from various ethnic traditions, as well as folk, jazz, popular, and classical music, and music-related lectures.
The Hoagy Carmichael Room is open by appointment (812/855-4679) during regular Archives' hours.
