ATM collection added to 2017 National Registry

The 2017 National Recording Registry includes a collection at Indiana University's Archives of Traditional Music (ATM). A collection of 195 cylinder recordings made in 1928 at the Standing Rock Sioux reservation in Fort Yates, North Dakota, is one of 25 historically and culturally significant recordings added to the registry this year.

Initiated in 2002, the Registry was one result of the creation by Congress of the National Recording Preservation Act. The purpose of the Act is to maintain and preserve sound recordings and collections of sound recordings that are culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
