Ola Belle Reed, winner of the NEA's National Heritage Fellowship, was a singer and banjo player who grew up in Ashe County, North Carolina. After moving to Pennsylvania, Reed was the focus of extended fieldwork completed by renowned folklorist Henry Glassie in the late 60s and early 70s. For this Noon Concert/Lecture Series, Glassie will contextualize selected recordings from the Ola Belle Reed collection, housed at the Archives of Traditional Music.
