The Archives listening library provides audio and video workstations for public use. Access to the collection is facilitated by a card catalog and two terminals for the Indiana University on-line library system (IUCAT). When patrons locate recorded material of interest in the card catalog or the on-line database, they are provided with a listening copy (dubbed from the original recording in either reel-to-reel, cassette, or CD format) and printed documentation about the recordings, which they may use in the library. Patrons may request that a listening copy be produced for recordings not yet dubbed. A small collection of reference books and periodicals is also available for consultation.

The library also houses the technical services division of the Archives, where materials are processed and cataloged on the OCLC and IUCAT library databases. Patrons may access Archives collections by collector, performer, depositor, geographic area, culture group, song title, instrument, and keyword boolean searches. IUCAT is accessible via telnet or Web browsers. The library is also a participant in the Name Authority Cooperative (NACO) project, researching and contributing personal and corporate name headings for world, folk, jazz, blues, and popular musicians to a national database.
