Bloomington Library Faculty Council
Summary of BLFC Actions Needed as Part of the Dean’s Review Process
(Working draft, Updated 8/30/00)
Prior to the beginning of the new BLFC year, several tasks related to the
Dean's review process were completed by the previous Council and its
Faculty Standards Committee. These included
-
writing unit specific questions for Section V of the survey,
-
sending the draft questions to John Kennedy at the Center for Survey Research,
-
considering his comments and clarifying the original questions, and
-
developing a list of nominees to forward to the BFC Nominations Committee to
recommend as unit representatives for the Dean's Review Committee.
The 2000/01 BLFC and its committees will take responsibility for the following
tasks. We plan to keep an updated summary here.
-
Determine if we want to code any group of respondents.
- Extra system librarian responses will be segregated by code.
(BLFC decision, August 16, 2000)
-
Determine if we want to include emeriti in the population surveyed.
- Emeriti will not be included in the survey. (BLFC decision, August 16,
2000.)
- Recommend to the Review Committee that input be solicited from
emeriti. (BLFC Secretary to convey to Chair of Review Committee)
-
Appoint subcommittee to remove the self-identifying remarks from the survey.
- Subcommittee appointed, Ann Bristow and Lois Heiser (BLFC action,
August 16, 2000)
-
Discuss with Ted Miller (Chair of the Review Committee) and John Kennedy
(Center for Survey Research) the time frame for final survey tabulation.
-
Review the generic cover letter and make changes appropriate to our needs.
If the changes are significant, refer the letter to the BFC Nominations Committee.
- Subcommittee appointed, Julie Bobay and Elizabeth Johnson
(BLFC action, August 16, 2000)
-
Decide who should sign the letter (Ted Miller, Committee Chair; Jim Sherman,
President of BFC; other) The person signing may affect the return rate.
- Recommendation from cover letter subcommittee.
-
Determine language to replace generic terms in the survey and review the
generic survey's final line and revise, as appropriate.
- Seek recommendation from cover letter subcommittee.
-
Decide if BLFC should prepare some sort of formal input to the Committee
relative to our role as the Bloomington Faculty elected policy body.
-
Decide who should receive the survey results.
-
