How do Boolean Operators Work?
                                                                  Using NOT

NOT is used to eliminate records that contain a term. It can be used to eliminate records that may not be appropriate for some reason.

Sample Searches:

(Coal near (Indiana OR Illinois)) NOT Reclamation
((Devonian OR Mississippian) near Indiana) NOT Illinois

Try a search using NOT in GeoRef.

NOT can also be used to eliminate Abstracts published for geological society meetings (GSA, AAPG and AGU).
