Below is a list of theater and drama print resources.

Afro-American Poetry and Drama, 1760-1975: a Guide to Information Sources
Detroit: Gale, 1979.
This book has two sections, the first on poetry and the second on drama. The drama section lists playwrights and their published and unpublished plays, in addition to reference sources in African American theater, anthologies of plays, and critical works.

Arata, Esther. More Black American Playwrights : a Bibliography.
Metuchen, NJ: Scarecrow, 1978.
Includes a list of plays for each playwright, with citations for reviews and critical reviews. According to Shaland in American Theater and Drama Research
(see "Literary Resources"), there are some errors in some of the names and dates, but these two books are still useful.

This work contains a list of plays by each playwright, with a brief description of the plot and production history in some cases. It also contains a list of anthologies of plays by African American dramatists, and a bibliography of dissertations on the Black theater.

New York: Greenwood, 1982.
Intended for "researchers in theatre history and theatre technology," because it lists many books that would be of interest primarily to the theatre historian. Still, this book might be useful to the practioner, for it also lists articles and books on lighting, sound, properties and scenery.

This book includes playwrights and their plays that were written before 1950. It includes biographical information and brief plot descriptions, and has a good list of theater organizations, chronology of plays, bibliography of play anthologies and works about black drama and theater.

This book lists plays that are "by, about, with, for, and related to blacks." It contains a guide to plays and biographical dictionary of authors, actors and theater organizations, and a chronology of plays.
