Selecting Information Sources

Screen 2 of 3

What types of information are available on this topic? In some cases instructors require that you find information in a variety of formats to complete your assignment. You may need to look for information in books, magazines, newspapers, videos, interviews, etc. Finding a variety of sources may help you to get a broad perspective on the topic.

Do you need current information?  Each topic will differ in the type of information that is required. Magazines, journals, newspapers or web sites may be good sources for current information. Books take much longer to write and publish than articles; therefore, they may not be the best sources to use for information on a very current topic. See the table on screen 3 (?) for an explanation of sources of information.
