From the donkey to the jet : man's experience with travel from the fifth century B.C. to the present
This catalogue, and the exhibit it describes, give the travel enthusiast a glimpse of tourism from the earliest preserved printed records to the present day. Included are narratives and accounts written by travellers and pilgrims, guidebooks, travellers’ aids (promotional literature), books and pamphlets showing evolution of transport throughout the human experience. Aiming to represent private travel rather than official governmental missions, the exhibit does not include historic and epochal journeys and voyages or discovery of conquest. The exhibit is arranged under five major sub-topics: before the engine, the steamship, the railroad, the automobile, and the airplane.
