Lilly Library Manuscript Collections

The Pyle mss. IV, 1940, consist of carbon copies of dispatches by journalist Ernie Pyle, 1900-1945, sent to newspaper publisher Scripps Howard. They were written and sent almost daily from Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras during his Central American tour in January-March 1940. The first was written aboard the S.S. Sixaola, bound for Panama from New Orleans; the last is from Miami, Florida after his return to the States.
