ARCHIPELAGO PRESS MSS.
The Archipelago Press mss., 2002- , consist of the papers of the Press, including correspondence with authors, translators and advertisers, typescripts and manuscripts of books published, proof copies, trial dust jackets, etc. Founded by Jill Schoolman, the Archipelago Press is a not-for-profit press devoted to publishing excellent translations of classic and contemporary world literature. In their first five years, they brought out over forty-five books from nearly twenty languages. Their international authors include among others: Breyten Breytenbach, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar, Francis Ponge, Julio Cortázar, Tadeusz Rozewicz, Marguerite Duras, Robert Musil, Henri Michaux, Elias Khoury, João Cabral de Melo Neto, Witold Gombrowicz, and Jean Giono. Major translators represented in the press include, among others, Michael Henry Heim, Richard Sieburth, Richard Zenith, Lee Fahenstock, Bill Johnston, Peter Wortsman, Daniel Slager, Robert Bonono, and Peter Theroux.
