GEDULD MSS.

The Geduld mss., ca. 1922-1995, consist of correspondence and papers of Indiana University Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature, Harry M. Geduld. Professor Geduld was born in London, England in 1931, attended the University of Sheffield for his B.A. and M.A., and did his doctoral work at the University of London, where he wrote his dissertation on George Bernard Shaw's play Back to Methuselah. He came to Indiana University early in the 1960s as an instructor in English and retired in 1996 as Chairperson of the Department of Comparative Literature. The collection is organized into the following series: I. Biographical; II. Back to Methuselah; III. Dmytryk; and, IV. Raphaelson. An inventory is available. Correspondence in the collection is primarily with film director Edward Dmytryk, 1908-1999, and dramatist, screenwriter Samson Raphaelson, 1896-1983. Other correspondents include Lady Helen Violet Bonham-Carter and stage director, producer Peter Coats.
