HAHN MSS. II
The Hahn mss. II, 1942-1943, consists of correspondence urging the U.S. Government to place author Emily Hahn's name on the list of American correspondents in Japan and Japanese held territories to be exchanged for Japanese journalists in the United States. Copies of these letters of support and of the responses from State Department officials were forwarded to Emily Hahn's sister Helen Asbury, usually by New Yorker editor Isaac Shuman or by William Rose Benét of the Saturday Review of Literature .
Correspondents in the collection are Bernice Baumgarten, William Rose Benét, Joseph Hillyer Brewer, Alexandra Brown, Marion Ponsonby Gause Canby, Bennett Alfred Cerf, Mitchell Dawson, Randall Chase Gould, Franklin Crosbie Gowen, Joseph Coy Green, Malcolm Johnson, Malcolm Ross, Isaac Shuman, Cornelius Vander Starr, Richard John Walsh, and John Neville Wheeler.
