LAWRENCE, W.J. MSS.
The Lawrence, W.J. mss., 1919-1927, are the letters of Ernest Philip Alphonse Law, 1854-1930, barrister and writer on Shakespearean subjects, to William John Lawrence, 1862- 1940, historian. The letters are concerned with their mutual interest in writings and writers on Shakespeare, including authors Thornton Shirley Graves, 1883-1925, Charlotte (Carmichael) Stopes, 1841-1929, and Alwin Thaler, 1891- . Law expressed his desire to meet Lawrence who lived in Belfast and congratulated him on his appointment as a visiting lecturer at Harvard. In 1927 Lawrence dedicated one of his works to Law.
The letters are accompanied by clippings from The Times Literary Supplement, 1920, Dec. 23-1921, Feb. 24, which published the exchange of Ernest Law with Charlotte (Carmichael) Stopes related to the authenticity of the "forgeries" in the Revels Accounts.
