LEIBER, F. MSS. II
The Leiber, F. mss. II, ca. 1932-1970, consist of correspondence, writings, drawings, and photographs of science fiction writer Fritz Leiber, 1910-1992. The correspondence includes a typed carbon copy to a publisher, October 21, 1949, regarding publication of Conjure Wife and Gather Darkness!; drafts of two letters to his wife, 1956, when they were separated; and letters from various friends and associates, particularly Myna Lockwood. The writings present include fragments and miscellaneous notes for story ideas, but chiefly they consist of long notes analyzing himself, his wife and his relationship with her and other family members; and notes and discussion outlines about drinking and alcoholism.
A substantial portion of the collection consists of pamphlets, newsletters and other publications of Alcoholics Anonymous, primarily from the 1960s. Some of the notes and writings described above relate to or result from meetings of AA attended by Leiber.
Also present is a folder of theatre notices and ephemera relating to his father, Shakespearean actor Fritz Leiber, Sr.
A folder list of the collection is available.
