McDOWELL MSS.
The McDowell mss., ca. 1978-1986, consist of letters from writer Raymond Carver, 1938-1988, to poet Robert McDowell, 1953- . The letters relate mainly to Carver's writing projects, his teaching positions, and to possible lecture engagements at McDowell's home institutions. Also present is a copy of one long letter from McDowell to Carver thanking him for an inscribed copy of Ultramarine and describing how much he likes it: "it's a wowser of a book." The last letter, in response to McDowell's, thanks him for the compliments, reports on the doings and whereabouts of some mutual friends, and turns down McDowell's request for a jacket blurb for his forthcoming volume Another Shore "... I haven't given a blurb for a book in nearly three years..."
