PATERSON MSS.
The Paterson mss., ca. 1941, consist primarily of photographs of London streets and districts that relate to locations in the novels of nineteenth century English author George Gissing. The photographs were commissioned by James Paterson and were taken by Bedford Lemere & Co., Architectural Photographers, 147 Strand, London. Twenty- three of the photographs are 6in. x 8in. and most are described in some detail in an accompanying letter from Paterson to Dr. K.C. Hayens. Four additional photographs are 9 1/4in. x 12in. All of the photographs are matted.
Accompanying the materials in addition to Paterson's letter is a response from Hayens to Paterson and a 5in. x 7in. full-length portrait photograph of George Gissing, ca. 1895, taken by Russell & Sons, Photographers to H.M. the Queen.
