ROLOFF MSS.
The Roloff mss., ca. 1967–1999, consist of letters between Michael Roloff and various correspondents. Roloff was born December 19, 1937, in Berlin Germany to Wilhelm T. Roloff and Alexandra von Alvensleben. The family emigrated to the United States in 1950. Roloff received his B.A. degree from Haverford College in 1958. He completed additional studies at the University of Munich and the Free University of Berlin in 1957 and The Department of German at Stanford University (1958–60). He has worked as an editor at Metamorphosis, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, and Continuum Books. He is recognized for his translations of the work of writer, Peter Handke. Correspondents include Hubert Fichte, Frederic Jameson, Michael Klett, Jürg Laederach and Peter Mayer among others. The letters contain discussions of his role as the translator of Peter Handke's work.
