VAWTER MSS.
The Vawter mss., 20th cent., includes those paintings with black, gray and white wash prepared by John William Vawter, 1871-1941, Indiana artist, for illustrating The Youth of James Whitcomb Riley and The Maturity of James Whitcomb Riley by John Marcus Dickey published in 1919 and 1922 (Lilly PS2706 .D542 and .D482). Several of the paintings hang along the upper staircase of the gallery and in the conference room; the remainder are shelved in the map case. An inventory is on file in the department.
