THIS COLLECTION HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED TO UNIVERSITY ARCHIVES.

The Appleman mss., 1955-1983, consist primarily of the manuscripts, galleys, and research notes of Philip Dean Appleman, 1926- , professor of English at Indiana University, Bloomington. Included is his dissertation, submitted at Northwestern University, 1955; drafts and manuscripts of poems, essays, papers and lectures presented at conferences, magazine articles, as well as manuscripts and galley proofs for eight of his published volumes. Included in the latter are The Silent explosion, (Beacon, 1965); Summer love and surf (Vanderbilt University Press, 1968); Darwin (Norton, 1970); In the twelfth year of the war (Putnam, 1970); An Essay on the principle of population (Norton, 1976); Open doorways (Norton, 1976); Shame the Devil (Crown, 1981); and Darwin's Ark (Indiana University Press, 1984).
