The Atkins mss., 1896-1980, are largely movie stills acquired by Thomas Radcliffe Atkins, 1939- , founder, editor and publisher of The Film Journal. The first volume of The Film Journal appeared in the Spring of 1971; six issues later, in 1975, the Journal ceased publication.
The collection covers a wide range of film from the earliest period of cinema through Hollywood's Golden Age up to 1980. Also included in the collection are photographs of film posters, slides from the James Bond thriller The Spy Who Loved Me, and a few printed items, including studio promotional materials and a complete run of The Film Journal.
