Lilly Library Manuscript Collections


The Banta, R.E. mss., 1938-1977, consist of the writings and research notes of Richard Elwell Banta, 1904-1977, bookman and raconteur. Included in the collection are drafts and typescripts of articles and books by Banta; speeches or talks delivered to historical society meetings, to graduate history students, and on holiday ceremonial occasions; the unpublished manuscripts of his last work Utopia on the Wabash: A History of New Harmony; as well as research notes and copies of correspondence relating to Fort Michilimackinac, and to the Prophet and his brother Tecumseh.
