Lilly Library Manuscript Collections

The Bingham mss., 1953-1955, consist of letters from author John Michael Ward Bingham, 1908-1988, to novelist Dennis Yates Wheatley, 1897-1977. The letters mostly concern Bingham's dissatisfaction with publisher Gollancz and apologies for Wheatley's quote not being used on the book jackets of two of Bingham's books. The March 5 and 6, 1953 letters were removed from Bingham's Five roundabouts to heaven (London: Victor Gollancz, 1953) (Lilly PR6053 .L283 F56); the May 22, 1954 letter was removed from Bingham's The third skin: a story of a crime (London: Victor Gollancz, 1954) (Lilly PR6053 .L283 T44); and the 1955 letter was removed from Bingham's The Paton Street case (London: Victor Gollancz, 1955) (Lilly PR6053 .L283 P31).
