BRADLEY MSS.
The Bradley mss., ca. 1902-1997, consists of the papers of director and film historian David Bradley, 1920-1997. Bradley was born in Winnetka, Illinois. Though none of his feature-length films was a commercial success, he is credited with directing Charleton Heston in his first major role as the title character in Peer Gynt (1941). Bradley is best known, however, as a film historian. He collected films from an early age and built an extensive collection that extends from silent movies to 1990s releases. He was a popular instructor at a number of colleges and universities, including UCLA.
The collection is organized into the following series: I. Film elements; II. Photographs; and, III. Papers. The Film elements series consists of incomplete films, audio tapes, sound tracks, replacement footage, etc. A list of the Film elements is available. The Photographs contain mostly film stills and a list is available.
The full-length films have been separately and individually catalogued. The titles may be searched through IUCAT, Indiana University Libraries' online catalog.
