CHARDONNE MSS.
The Chardonne mss., 1929-1936, are the letters of Jacques Chardonne, 1884- , novelist whose real name is Jacques Boutelleau. He was born at Barbezieux, Charente, France. In 1910 he bacame a member of the P.V. Stock publishing firm. After 1915, while convalescing from an illness, he began to write and published his first novel in 1921. He portrayed French family and business life and provincial society. The letters are to his publisher, Louis Brun, and mention his books Chant du Bienheureux, Les Destinees Sentimentales, Epithalame, and Eva.
