CLARK V. MSS.

The Clark, V. mss., ca. 1861-1922, consist of documents, genealogical information and photographs pertaining to Virley Ellsworth Clark, 1880-1947, of Monroe County, Indiana. The two earliest items are photographs of James Marshall Clemens, 1861, 5th Kentucky Cavalry, and of Virley Ellsworth Clark. Spanish American War, 1898--"Enlisted when 17 years old at Greencastle, Ind. Co. F. 159th Inf." Also present is the military appointment of Virley Clark as Sergeant in Co. F, 159th regiment of Indiana Volunteers, dated June 1, 1898, and a marriage license for Virley E. Clark and Nellie B. Clemens, Monroe County, June 22, 1900. The license is then certified by Rev. Thomas J. Clark as having joined them in marriage 24 June 1900. Nellie, 1879-1984, was possibly the daughter, or at least of some relation to James Marshall Clemens.

The remaining items relate to "The Family Tree of Israel and Sarah Moore" by C.P. Moore Gilbert, including a letter to Virley E. Clark, Nov. 21, 1922, about the revolutionary war service of Gersham Moore in the New Jersey militia.
