The Clemens mss. II, 1945, are those letters sent to Cyril Clemens, 1902- , author, of Kirkwood, Missouri, concerning a symposium planned in honor of Ernie Pyle (Ernest Taylor Pyle, 1900-1945, journalist) following his death on April 18 on Ie Shima.

The correspondents are Charles Angoff, John Mason Brown, William Aloysius Keleher, Clay Perry, Edward Streeter.

Included is a press release sent to Clemens by the Secretary of the Navy, James W. Forrestal, and a typed copy of the news statement by Harry S Truman.

Other materials are several news and magazine clippings about the life, death, and burial of Ernie Pyle; memorials and tributes to him; and a few of his newspaper columns.
