Lilly Library Manuscript Collections

The Moody, Carol mss, ca. 1945-1951, documents the creation and work of Quizdown, a highly popular and successful radio show which was also shown on television.

Quizdown, a syndicated radio program written and performed by grammar school students, was a joint newspaper-radio-school promotion created by Carol Moody, in which two teams of fourth, fifth and sixth grade students competed each week during the half-hour radio quiz. Questions, which were approved by a board of educators and pertained to subjects studied in school, were submitted by other children in the same grades. The program was conducted in a spelling-bee format.
