DEAM WILDERNESS MSS.
The Deam Wilderness mss., 1963-1988, consist of papers collected by Claude Ferguson, Supervisor of the Hoosier National Forest, during the founding and designation process of the Charles C. Deam Wilderness as Indiana's only Federal Wilderness area.
The collection is organized into the following series: I. Correspondence; II. Newspaper Clippings; III. Proposals; IV. Reports; V. Environmental Impact Statements; VI. State Records; VII. Federal Records; VIII. Writings; IX. Printed Materials; X. Fact Sheets; XI. Press Releases; XII. Minutes; XIII. Notes; XIV. Periodicals; XV. Miscellaneous Documentation; XVI. Maps. The bulk of the materials are dated 1973-1982, from the approximate start of the formal designation process to approval of the bill by President Ronald Reagan.
