The Drabble mss., ca. 1974-1975, consists of four letters to author Margaret Drabble, 1939- , concerning her biography of Arnold Bennett. The letters from Trevor Blount of the University of Southampton (9 March 1975) and Daniel Waley, Keeper of Manuscripts at the British Library (4 March 1975) express pleasure at reading the biography and offer some corrections should a second edition be planned. A long letter from Alma Oakes, January 23, recounts that her father, a financier, not newspaper proprietor, was the "Ochs" Drabble referred to as being in Paris with Bennett, and then goes one to tell a couple of anecdotes about Bennett when she was a young child. The final letter, October 30, is from a friend and social in nature.
The letters were removed from Margaret Drabble's own copy of the biography, (London: Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1974) which is also present. The volume is annotated and corrected throughout, including with the corrections offered by her correspondents.
