Lilly Library Manuscript Collections


The Ellis mss., 1925-1935 and 1937, are letters from Havelock Ellis, 1859-1939, to Josephine L. Walther, -1937, a member of the staff of the Detroit institute of arts.

The collection also includes a letter of September 15, 1937, from Ellis to Jane Himmelein of the Detroit institute of arts, in response to a letter from her informing him of Josephine L. Walther's death and thirteen photographs, nine of which are snapshots of Ellis and three of which are postcards of scenes in Cadgwith, Cornwall, England. A typescript of the letters is included in the collection.
