ESAREY MSS.
The Esarey mss., 1912-1914, consist of the reports of a survey of Indiana newspapers, the draft of a history of newspapers in Indiana based on the survey, both arranged alphabetically by place of publication, miscellaneous notes relating to that history, a few letters in a separate folder, and an undated typewritten article, signed by Logan Esarey and entitled, "The Indiana press from 1850 to 1860: a study of public opinion."
The survey conducted in 1912 and 1913 was entitled Indiana University Historical Survey, material for a historical directory of the newspapers and other periodicals of Indiana: James A. Woodburn, Director; Samuel B. Harding, Assistant Director; Logan Esarey, Secretary. Occasionally the survey report will be presented in the form of a letter, or the report will bear a message to Logan Esarey or James A. Woodburn, or it will be accompanied by a letter containing information concerning that particular newspaper.
