Lilly Library Manuscript Collections


The Forester, C.S. mss., 1937-1966, consist of letters from Cecil Scott Forester, 1899-1966, author to various editors at Little, Brown & Company. The vast majority of the file dates from the years Forester was living in Berkeley, California, and covers a period when Forester published 23 of his books.

Recipients of the letters include: Larned G. Bradford, Donald Angus Cameron, Alfred Robert McIntyre, Stanley Salmen, Roger Livingston Scaife, Arthur H. Thornhill, and Nicholas Wreden. The final letter in the file is from Dorothy Forester to Bradford following the death of her husband.
